-people who are passionate about music/film making and just need some direction and orientation, but at the same time cannot afford time, money and willingness for full time courses etc.
-for people who, beyond their key occupations/engagements, are looking for an alternate creative engagement or a creative form of expression. These people may be school/college students, working professionals or even individuals retired from their occupations but still looking for a satisfying creative engagement.

The evolution of these workshops
(My story so far - by Aditya)
Let me walk you through past few years while music-composition and film-making were happening to me. May be you can correlate and hence understand the workshops better.
Few years back, when I had lived a considerable time as a typical individual living in a metropolitan, from a middle-class family, earning my bread from an IT company - I decided to flex some of my creative muscles. I had been playing some home-keyboards and strumming my local made acoustic guitar since school days now. I wanted to move ahead with that and thus started exploring music composition.
Some questions that used to pop-up in my head often were:
- How do they make these songs ?
- From where can I learn all that ?
- Do I need to quit my job for this ? How will I earn ??
- Where do you get all those high-end studio gizmos and gadgets ?
- And, above all, how much money do I need to spend to become a music-composer??
..and a few million more such questions.
Having no contacts as such in this domain there wasn’t much I could I expect from outside the internet. It did take a lot of time for me to find out a few half-baked answers for these questions. It was a totally unknown territory for me and thus I had my share of inhibitions in risking to step into these lands !
Though late, but then I could finally figure out a place where I could learn this art. Also, due to my IT job, that I had sensibly decided not to quit, I could manage enough funds to learn the skill and also build up a basic setup for my very own home studio - though the complete experience costed me around a whole year’s salary ! But it was worth it and I still cherish it as one of my best decisions in life :)
I used to wonder if I had an elder brother or a friend who was a music composer too and who could guide me about the way ahead :) Well, if that was to happen, I am sure I would have saved a lot of time and efforts and also I wouldn’t have had those inhibitions.
So, here’s one area where I think I can now help a few more creative individuals who are aspiring to get a glimpse into the world of Music Creation.
Now, when I started making some music, I wanted to express myself musically to the world. In simpler words, I wanted to show-off my music to everyone around :) Now this desire led me to explore various online portals where I could share my music. I also saw several other artistes out there on the web and got newer ideas.
Believe me, with the advent of technology today, your own home computer equipped with a simple Internet connection, can help you create music, share music, even sell your creations and do lots more. You just need to have a creative attitude towards applying technology to your use.
Here again I believe I can share my experiences and knowledge about this aspect of creative expressions - the Internet !
Moving on with my story again - along-with all that music happening in my life, now I realize that I was also fond of clicking photos. I remember my first electronic purchase from my own salary was a Canon Digicam. In-fact I even used it to record videos of my small musical performances often. I then started exploring how to make videos for my songs - where and how to publish them, etc. I remember creating my first ‘music video’ with just simple still photographs which were just transitioning from one photo to another following the beat of the song. I was so happy with that :) A little more exploration here and I then started actually shooting some stuff with my small digicam.
I again wanted to raise the bar now. This time, I was a better aware and focused seeker on the Internet :) I managed to find a place where I could learn the art of making films. Yet again I had to manage funds and more than that, the responsibilities at my IT job had also increased. But eventually I did manage to arrange for the funds. Time and effort-wise it was really challenging and exhausting at times. But then again - the creative satisfaction it gave is immense - Priceless indeed !
Since then I’ve been doing a lot of shooting with my handy-cam, editing at my home-studio. I’ve also been covering videos for live events like music-concerts and editing out a final crisp product from the footage - and of-course creating simple graphics and shots from my ‘music videos’ :) Also, at my IT job also, besides my Engineering roles, I’ve also been involved in making various films for the corporate - covering technical events, corporate presentations, interviews, cultural performances etc.
Also, this skill of making videos helps me big time with my role of heading the Technology & Creative Communications domain at the NGO - Expressions India. It’s life-skills education program for the children and adolescents and we often need to make short-films about social awareness topics, promotional campaign videos etc.
Here I again feel that I can share my experiences and information pertaining to the domain of Independent Film Making.
In both these orientation workshops (Film Making and Music Composition), I intend the following to happen:
•I will be introducing the participants to the prevalent music-composition / film making procedures and practices followed in the industry.
•We will also walk through my own methods and tools that I use at my home studio.
•I will try and make you aware about the various resources from where you can learn - various schools where you can learn films/music, various Internet portals where you can look for help.
•We will discuss about a typical home-studio setup, the purpose of each gadget out there, where to buy these and also the fiances associated.
•Both these orientation workshops are essentially designed to be single 90 minutes capsule sessions where we discuss about these aspects and then you’ll be better aware as to where to look for and what to look for - before keeping your first step into this hi-tech creative world.
•We;ll do one session and then you embark your own journey ahead to explore further, learn new things and going further if you feel the need of another orientation session with me, I’ll be more than happy to design an advanced session for you :)
CREATIVITY is an ATTITUDE. Anything can be CREATIVE !!
